Mille Lacs County Area DAC began in 1970 when a group of residents and concerned parents from Mille Lacs County and neighboring counties came together with a mission to provide a place where disabled individuals could gain and maintain vocational skills and social opportunities. What began as a small program with seven participants in the basement of the Glendorado Church, has evolved over the years to become the program we are today.
After our humble beginnings in the church, we moved to the Princeton Armory in 1972 and shortly after that in 1973, we relocated to Milaca where we could better serve individuals from both ends of the county. At this time we were serving six clients, but anticipated significant growth resulting from our ability to now provide paid work training to our clients. In 1978, we moved to our current location in Milaca with plans to add on to the existing structure. In the fall of 1982, with our building addition and renovations complete, we were serving 35 individuals with disabilities at the Milaca location. By 1988, we grew to 50 attendees, and made the decision to expand to a second location in Princeton. Eventually, we out grew our space in Princeton, so we purchased and renovated the building in Princeton where we presently reside.
